Need (just a little) general guidance

Hi guys,
I'm an experienced computer programmer, and know lots of languages (VB, C#, Python, Java, PHP, C++) however, I've only done some basic programs in C++ that did not require APIs or memory address reading/writing, nor have I ever made a C++ dll

So, can anyone point me in the implementation of writing to a memory address and creating an injectable DLL? My research thus far has left me dazed and confused, since most of it is contradictory.

P.S. I'm using Code::Blocks v10, but I also have VC++ 2008 and 2010.
