"Nonononoooo. Bad idea. If you clamp it shut it will change the shape of the piercing-hole through your skin and you'll have a hell of a time ever getting it out again. Plus, you can scratch the metal if you put pliers on it or something, which bacteria can get into and cause infection.

I'd just put some tape or something around the gap and over the two ends and leave it until you can get back to the studio and get them to put the bead back in.

I know it's a pain, and those balls are realllly hard to get in (I couldn't get mine back in after I had to have my cartilage ring taken out for an MRI scan), wound up having to go back to the place that did my tattoo and ask them to put it back in (the piercing was done while on vacation in Canada heh)

I just taped the ends of the ring and it stayed in place until I could go back the next day after work."

You don't have to go back to the piercing place to get it replaced. Stop being a pussy and do it yourself. If you insist on waiting until the shop opens to go then just grab a clove ( a whole one...like the cloves your mother cooks with) and insert the sharp end into your piercing just as you would any other stud. The clove has antiseptic and numbing properties. It will keep the piercing clean and open until you are able to replace your lip ring. Although I prefer barbells instead of hoops.

Position the lip ring so the opening of the circle is facing forward. Stand in front of a mirror if you need to see what you are doing.Snap the bead into place. The bead itself should have two indentations on opposing sides of the sphere. The dents indicate where the bead lines up with the shaft of the piercing. Line up one end of the ring with one of the indentations. Hold the ring and bead in place with your thumb and forefinger. Using the tension you have created, slide the bead so that the second indentation snaps in place with the other end of the ring Tighten the ring if necessary. The ball should be able to move, but just barely. The ball should not rattle around. Conversely, the ring should not be so tight that the ball cannot move at all, a sign that there is too much tension in the ring, which can lead to the ball popping out on its own. Use a pair of circlip pliers to ensure a proper fit and tension.
