    Photoshop Book

Just found my sister's old "GFX" classroom stuff from college.. There is a lot of useful stuff in here, so I guess it's a good find.. I may actually recommend this to you, and give you a little overview. It's an Adobe Photoshop book, and it's pretty helpful..

    CHAPTERS

    1. Getting to know the work area.
Basically shows you around Photoshop, shows you the tools, the layouts of Photoshop, and the basics of finding resources.

    Tools used.
    Basic Photoshop tools
    Tool Panel Overview

    2. Basic photo corrections.
This chapter helps you to get to know the tools, and learn how to resize, and/or crop the photo. Also goes around the clone stamp tool, which a lot of people are completely blank on using.

    Tools used.
    Sponge tool
    Spot Healing Brush tool
    Clone Stamp

    3. Working with selections.
Obviously it works with selections. Rotating, selecting, and cropping are big words here. This can help you get through lasso tool frustrations.

    Tools used.
    Lasso tool
    Magic Wand tool
    Quick Selection tool
    Eraser

    4. Layer Basics
Shows you around the "Layers" Panel, and teaches you how to rearrange layers. Also, it shows you how to apply gradients, and layer styles.

    Tools used.
    Layer Panel Overview
    Gradient Mapping

    5. Correcting and Enhancing digital photographs.
Basically goes over how to edit a photo. Camera Raw is an important tool here.

    Tools used.
    Camera Raw
    Exposures
    Depth of Field

    6. Masks and Channels.
I honestly did not know what a "clipping mask" was until I read this. This chapter shows you how to clip, refine, and create a mask for your work.

    Tools used.
    Clipping Mask tool
    Puppet Warp

    7. Typographic Design.
Clipping masks, warping, paragraphs of type....This chapter is confusing. But, it basically shows you how to put the right text into a design. It's useful.

    Tools used.
    Clipping Mask tool
    Text tool

    8.Vector Drawing Techniques.
This is my favorite chapter, because I love vectors. It breaks down how to make a vector shape for a background, and tons more.

    Tools used.
    Pen tool
    Brush tool

    9. Advanced Layering.
This chapter is full of things you can't even imagine for layers in Photoshop. It goes over the advanced things in layering photoshop such as, clipping a layer to shapes, adding artwork in perspective, merging layers, managing them, and tons more.

    Tools used.
    Layer tools
    Many other tools

    10. Advanced Compositing.
This chapter helps you create montages, applying smart filters, hand coloring selections on a layer, and more. It's very useful to you background-savvy people.

    Tools used.
    Smart Filter tool
    Paranorma tool

    11. Painting with the Mixer Brush.
Teaches you about Mixers Brushes, mizing colors, creating custom brush presets, and more. You can learn a lot from this chapter.

    Tools used.
    Mixer Brush
    Brush Settings
    Brush tool
    Wet Brush

    12. Working with 3D images.
Photoshop isn't all 2D, you can make objects like in Cinema4D, just not as high of a range. This chapter breaks down how to make 3D objects, and gave me more knowledge than I can handle.

    Tools used.
    Layer Panel
    Brush tool
    Repousse

    13. Preparing Files for the Web.
Useful is the word for this. Basic knowlegde on how to post things onto the Web, how to prep your image, and how to export HTML, and other images.

    Tools used.
    Selection tool
    Zoom tool

    14. Producing and Printing Consistent Color
Teaches you about printing your images, and how to save you file as a "CMYK EPS" file. Also shows you how to adjust, the right way.

    Tools used.
    Adjustment Layers
    Printer
    Paper

Adobe Photoshop is hard to get down, but with this, it's 90% easier. Hope this encouraged you to go out and buy this book! Damn, that was a lot of typing..

Better to fool around with it instead of reading it from a book.

well, all i see is hate, as it is be funer to mess around with, you don't really learn much about the more detailed tools. i think this small "book" is a good thing for people that are serious about learning how to use photoshop should look at, but it could be a little better, perhaps make a vid on more detailed things on how to do certian effects, or other things like that. Unless you're mentally fucking retarded, you wouldn't need to do this. It's for lazy ass bitches who don't want to learn on themselves.
