I use VMWare running Windows XP with 1000mb -> 1200mb ram.
The ones mentioned in searches seem to point to virtualbox and vmware as probably the best vm software. I was wondering if either is recommended by anyone here, or if someone knows something better... specifically for the use of running multiple vindictus clients/bots. I don't plan on using it for anything else really.
So I'm planning to set it up this weekend, and was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or tips to start things out.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah that's for each VM.
I'm running Win 7 32-bit. Wish I was running 64 so I could put all this extra RAM I have laying around for more VMs.
I don't really notice it on my system (2.83 quad). I have a single instance using 1400MB of RAM right now, and I know I could commit a lot less.
I'd love to know hwo the hell people get around the errors from using virtual boxes, I've tried multiple installations of VM Ware with and without it's "tools" and many other things using every OS from xp home to windows 7 ultimate (literally EVERY one between those) and every one of them gives me error code 23
That's WITH maxxed video allotment, and 4 gigs of ram allotted to each instance as well as 20 gigs of hdd space.

One tip: preallocate the disk space before creating the machine. And yeah I use vmware. It works but my computer is a bit too slow :s.
important matress
I have 10 drives on this computer, so utilizing a secondary disk isn't a problem, I've got one working now, just finished tweaking it a bit, gonna test it out in a few.

Not working for me either, but I haven't tried creating the machine on a secondary hard drive. I'd like to not have to hook up another one specifically for this reason, but is this the only way you solved it?
I've been spending the last few days testing (literally) 50 virtual machine applications on my server box to see which one REALLY is the best.
(for those wondering what makes me think I'd be able to tell which is best please refer to previous posts by me stating computer specifications as I'm sure most of you aren't running 48 core super servers in your house with quad core graphics cards.)

Draccon. Please use vmware workstation 7.1.4. Vmware workstation is possibly the best setup you can use. I been using vmware over the past 5 years back to maplestory. The graphics are superb depending on your system. I would utilize it with windows 7 and tweak the services.msc. It runs great and I'm still new here so I want to set it up as a bot.
my specs
i5 2500k @ 4.3 ghz
560 ti 1.25 gb
4 gb g skill
biostar t68
Armor Military tower
I'm downloading vmware workstation 7 at the moment, upon it's completion I'll begin testing vindictus with it on the server.
I've also found virtualbox to be GREAT handling vindictus (have gotten insane performance with it, but I'm in cohorts with one of the developers for it to figure out a mouse turning issue at the moment, so it's out of the question for now.
IF they fix it, it will probably become the best choice (so far - vmware workstation may outdo it, we'll see.)

WELL, it's official, VMWare Workstation is DEFINITELY the BEST for using multiple vindictus accounts, with VirtualBox in a VERY close second (they may be neck at neck eventually.)

Nice glad I could help. I'm actually trying to go for a third setup, but I think I require more ram since my os is 32 bit. Even @ 4.3ghz i5 I still lag a bit. I don't want to go to a 64 bit for compatibility issues, but might consider dual booting a 64 bit.
oh btw to not eat up your system memory and be able to run vindictus on your regular windows set it @ 1024 mb ram on vmware. I know it's a bit because its windows 7 and it loves to eat ram. I am working on a XP performance edition trying to lessen and cut it to 512mb. I want to squeeze out as much as I can for a 3rd.
I have a version of Xp that uses about 36megs of ram out of the box if you want a copy of it let me know and I can upload it for you.
With vindi running and Sinbot on it it's only using like a gig of ram at 1024x768 with directx 9 (have to put a few higher things on it to get better performance scaling from this beast ass card :P )
As for how much ram is used...well, haha, when you've got 64 gigs you typically don't really give two shits :P
