Even though the anime/manga gets to be sold 20km away, and the second nearest is 54km.
but the magazines and anime fan websites show there are people besides the growth of anime fans is rediculous last year at my school... when i started only i and like 5 others where really into it, now like 100 =w=. And these are acting though by only watching the most shönenfied animes in the world. And oh yeah they want to be special so they watch the best hentai's, -chough only kissxsis/HOTD/Queens blade(idk if they do watch this one presum~) (and these arent really hentai @ all)/black bible.

And worst part they try to watch everything in english or dutch, which fails so much at so manny animes.

If I consider your point, I will have a lot of people who watch animes around here too, but like you said, they only watch and discuss these mainstreams titles, a.k.a Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Death Note, Fairy Tail, etc...
I can't consider them like otakus or even anime's fan just because they only watch these well-known animes...
