A piston expands against 1.00atm of pressure, from 11.2L to 29.1L. This is done without any transfer of heat.
- a) calculate the change in energy of the system
- b) calculate the change in energy for the above change, and in addition, the system absorbs 1,037J of heat from its surroundings
ME AYUDA POR FAVOR.
Just kidding! I figured it out. If anybody needs it:
part 1)
ΔE = -PΔV
ΔE = -1atm(29.1L - 11.2L)
ΔE = -17.9 Liters(atm)
-17.9 Liters(atm) x 101.3 Liters(atm) / 1J = 1.813kJ
part 2)
1.813kJ + 1.037kJ = 2.85kJ
