so far, i have tried to set up a password on my router (netgear) but when i pressed apply, it said "applying", but then there were no changes. Then i logged into my Verizon thing (192.168.1.1), but couldnt find any password changing things

Go to https://192.168.1.1/ and log in with username "admin" password "admin"
If thats not right, then you're out of luck.
