In my *personal* experience, this only unlocks the achievement on Steam - and not in AVA itself (I.e. unlocking ribbons etc.). Am I correct, or has it been somehow updated?

Fools the client into thinking it's in-game, and is also unlocking those achievements (I assume packets sent). I'm not completely sure as I've never been too in-depth about it. Last time I was, was when achievements gave you rewards if they were in certain games (unsure if that's still present).

Might be two weeks old but you are WAYYYYY off. Steam stores the achievements you have unlocked for the games you own in a a log fule in the Steam folder. All the program does is overwrite the file with your changes.
