x8+x8 crossfire, AM3+ support, better southbridge, if you get the 990x / 990fx you can get x8+x8 or x16+x16 crossfire/sli support too, along with a better southbridge. You'll want USB3 and SATA3, as SSDs are already catching up in terms of pricing and availability (100 pounds already gets you a decent SSD instead of a large HDD but yields shittons more performance), USB3 is becoming a standard now and without AM3+ you're done for in terms of CPU upgrades (though AMD is a bad choice to even begin with if you're looking for true future-proof CPU builds). Also can't hurt to support crossfire / sli in case you ever want more gfx power. Also better OCing, better management of everything, better everywhere.
