They won't give you any extra levels no matter what. But I heard some people managed to get certain or all unlocks from a single weapon stating that it never unlocked for them after they had the requirements.

I got this on accident, i had trouble adding 1942 on my veteran status (before BF3) so i contacted EA. And told them my CD-Key isn't working, they asked for the CD-Key and suddenly they add all of the BF games to my status. Was pretty god damn happy
