Knew this would happen eventually. They should just make their own fps exactly like CoD with slightly different maps and what not. Also, Activision can NOT take their source for any of the coding, only what was originally theirs, the only thing they can do legally is sue the shit out of them really.

If I recall correctly then aIW as a project is still legal..
Some staff members did something illegal and therefore ActivEvil is sending those letters against those persons saying "oh, we can forget about what you did.. if you shut down the site, give us the codes and the domain"..

They will have to get Germany to comply

I'm not too sure about Germany's laws but I think it will be quite difficult to have another country punish your citizen

    Ex: wiki leaks?
    Question ALL statements! ?
You're in denial that you're in denial. ?

Not really .. all activision would eventually have to do is hire a law firm in germany and take actions from there ... but it takes money and the time ... I doubt activision would even sue them

    The announcement from AlterIW

At this time, only initial negotiations have been made, but it is certain that alterIWNet will cease all operations by the end of next week, indefinitely. During that time, you can still play the supported games, as usual.

Please refrain from taking any actions on our behalf, such as harassing letters, posts, "denial of service" attacks, telling your grandmother or anything else that you may deem wise. There is nothing more we can do here, unless Activision recognise us as a legitimate modding community.

Additionally, do not trust rumors. Everything official will be posted in this announcement. Anything you've heard that contradicts this announcement or is not mentioned here is likely false.

Thank you all for your continued dedication and contributions to alterIWNet and to PC gaming as a whole.

    I'd say :

Well done activision , closing a huge modding community just like that .. you'll win alot of members with that...

You guys did what activision didn't , listen to the players !!
Never ever regret what you did
