Because Africa, is not a single country. It is a continent. Saying you "visited africa many times" is what we'd like to call, generic proof.

For example: "I've visited north america many times, its doing okay."
You see, the difference is that if you visit the US or Canada, that would be true. But Mexico, not so much. You are making a general statement like "i visited Africa" like its all one place an nothing is different throughout the entire continent.
Not only that, but what normally happens is the "tourist effect". When you visit a place and don't know the reality of what its like to actually live there in a normal life.

I mean sure if you visited South Africa, or certain cities, you'd probably think "oh its ok". But statistics show that Africa is pretty much plagued with disease/famine and war. You don't see too many "help the hungry" posters not about africa either.
