I used to do the long jump myself. Ran for 2 years way back in high school. Furthest I ever got was like 18.7 ft unfortunately (qualifying is 20) However, my coach suggested I try doing the triple jump, and after learning how to do it right, my first real jump I hit 39'. Qualifying is 40'. I qualified for regionals at my second meet.

1 meter more than me ;D ~ what age did you do long jump at the time you hit 18.7ft?

Believe I was about 16 or 17. I know it was my sophmore and junior years in HS. And as for the triple jump, technically both. The line for the triple jump starts way before the one for regular long jump. It makes it easier to measure the distance so they dont have to have someone standing there looking for where you started. The trickiest parts of long and triple jumping were getting your foot on the line when you jumped. That and making sure to keep your legs parallel to the ground for as long as possible.
