I have a friend who wants to build a new PC.
His budget is around $500 and he wants it to be able to handle BF3.
Any help?

It's not like there's a noticeable price difference, nor does he lose any features he would need. All he does is gain a chance to either run two gfx cards or make better use of a better CPU, if he ever gets one. Furthermore 1155 won't die just that fast, it'll prolly still be of use for the next few years.

Haswell will be based on a 1150 socket, which is coming out next year.

He could always go the AMD route. IMO processor performance has advanced far enough to the point where even a mid range processor will suffice for %90 of games.
the FX4100 is a good choice for gaming I hear.
