One SIMPLE math question. Needs IMMEDIATE help.

Rules of Addition Problems Alge. --

1) The volume of water in a tank during a five-day period changed as follows: up 325 L, down 270 L, down 164 L, up 83 L and down 157 L? What was the volume of water in the tank at the beginning of the five-day period if the final volume was 52 L?
Show the equation!

Never been that great with Math myself, but shouldn't you atleast know the measurements of this tank??

The thing you're looking for is the volume of the water in the tank at the beginning, so let's call it x. What you do know is the final volume and what was added or taken from the starting volume to get there, so, following the steps described in your task, the equation would look something like:

x+325L-270L+83L-157L=52L

Of course since you're looking for x, just throw all the non-x stuff on one side and x on the other, so to speak.

x=52L-325L+270L-83L+157L
x=71L

Use a calculator, google or wolfram alpha to check the calculation. I just quickly did it in my calc so I might have made a typo or something

Uhm, I think you missed (-164) in the equation. SInce it also said "down 164 L" in the word problem. I got 235 as the answer, may you check if you have the same answer too?
