There's just one problem here... You are getting along with CE pretty well, good for you. You probably know how to scan for addies and how to freeze them, this is peanuts. IDA is used to track engine addresses down and find out structs and/or pointers. You will need to start from the beginning in the world of asm. Most people can only track addies down like jumpheight or speed because they simply are too lazy or do not want to continue spending their time learning how a CPU works.

Start with scanning for strings like "jump_height" and "g_speed", get the addies and try to learn from it -> Hard?

Yet, you are a pathetic human.

The addies turn out to be wrong although they read the default value of the address (800, 39)

This is how ida is described : IDA is a Windows, Linux or Mac OS X hosted multi-processor disassembler and debugger that offers so many features it is hard to describe them all.

Does it say IDA is a memory searcher? Better read what kind of program you are downloading before using it

If IDA is confusing to you then you have no idea what your doing. Before you use IDA my advice is to learn this programming language, PPC (ASM).

I would suggest to use Ollydbg before IDA, it is much easier to find the addresses by searching for text strings and looking around where they are located for the addresses of things you want to change. For example if you look for g_speed you look around the text string for "mov blah blah [0xXXXXXX] and the thing in the brackets is the offset, then put it into CE and change as you wish.
