it shouldnt really matter for now, it probably is just a template, and the real GFX will come when the final work is ready.
my big question is, how do you plan to distribute this? first: is it freeware, or strictly for profit? second: is it going to be downloadable, or are you hiring an agency that will put your OS on disk for shipping???
i know that you are trying to get the word out on your gaming performance operating system, which in my opinion is kickass(but seems a little late). i hate to break it too you, but i do agree with kanna's post earlier.

I do find it extremely interesting that you took the extra mile to make a potentially kickass GPOS, but my serious question is, are you going to charge and how much? that is my biggest concern. If you do charge and say $50. you'll most likely be rich out the yin-yang if probably no less than 2-3 years tops.

Those are some very good but none the less it is still way to far away to even think about an actual price but i promise it will be affordable for all. Like microsoft I will however be distributing betas and rc for free. Also it is not aimed for poor people. It is aimed for anyone wanting extra performance in gaming. Even some games still don't run at optimal performance on a high end pc. Think of it this way Windows is best for stablibity, Linux is best for networking, and mac is best for graphics. well if you use all 3 it would make the ultimate gaming os. which is what I am striving to use.

Also everything is still far far in alpha stages and the shell and all will change.

Making an OS strictly for gaming, and having it stripped to basic components would be pretty hard to do. The main reason is, there is a million different ways a game can acquire input from it's users, via DirectIntput, Windows messages or other APIs provided by the user32 libraries such as GetAsyncKeyState, or GetKeyboardState. Same goes for rendering and acquiring information from the operating system. Also, many game protection systems use very, very old or undocumented APIs to protect it's targets to make it harder to locate the methods you need to hook via the IAT, and chances are you'd be dropping support for these methods as well. What I'm trying to say is that the game's along with many other software have been buit around the existing resources provided. So you have to be careful with this. Also, many people do enjoy playing games, however they have many other things they need to do. Which is why you're better off creating software such as gameExcel. Also, regardless to how much you optimize, your video card will not start running 8 times faster then it was built for.

Also, with the hardware people have currently have, the amount of resources the OS takes isn't very high.(I'm talking about XP here) And can be easily decreased by stopping uneeded services and processes.

in so many ways true jetamay however GOS is for a secondary os not a primary. Even thou non game related programs will work in GOS just as well. How well its still way to far away to tell. Wait til I have the networking part working stable enough and I'll let you try it out so you get the idea. Also most of what you said relates to windows in general which is fine being that is all that is being worked on so far is the win32 side. never said anything about the video card running like that. Take XP and Vista for example using the same video card. on xp you can have high settings then you could in vista since aero takes up so much vram, gpu and lots of other system resources. its not hard to create a shell that looks like vista or even win7 without all of the requirements

I call bullshit.

First of all you can't run Microsoft signed programs directly on any "self-made" operating system. You'd have to reverse engineer Windows and you'd have a DMCA and a couple lawsuits so far up your ass before you could say "OUCH." Second of all, that just looks like KDE with a basic skin, take a look at the screenshot, there are 4 virtual screens. Why would a gaming OS have that? Absolutely no reason. Third of all, the only reason a 360 can outperform a PC with the same specs is because the HARDWARE was designed specifically and optimally for the console, and the games are written for optimal performance on a console, you can't shove both factors together and not expect them to outperform a "universal" PC. All it looks like is a stripped down version of Linux, and if you really did do that, it would take no way 6 years to do it, nor would you have to program anything from scratch especially with pre-built networking and usb services.

Of course if you did that, the only way you could run Windows games is through Wine, which is about as in-efficient/stupid as anything else that would suggest a gaming os. Why would you show a picture of a game that was released on Linux?
