Okay, so there's like a whole shit load you need to know before you start riding and pick a bike honestly.

First, let me ask you a few questions. You're looking for a sport style bike. However, there are two different riding positions on sport bikes and which position you prefer could very well be the deciding factor on the exact type of bike you select.

What kind of roads do you plan to ride on, and what is the traffic like on these roads? (i.e. high/low density traffic on urban pavement / rural back roads / etc. as well as the average speed of the roads and such)
What is your prior experience in riding bicycles / dirt bikes?
What are the lengths of your rides that you plan on primarily using the bike for?
    What is your current weight/height?
What is the insurance situation in Australia...?
Are you okay with buying used?

Also, that RZ15 is only 150cc's... That's a pretty dismal engine size.
    • Road is urban pavement and usually low-density
    • I've been riding bicycles since I was 5 so im more than capable...
    • Usually just riding my bike to school and to work which is 10km max.
    • my weight is 70kg and height is 180-190cm
    • No idea yet my mum refuses to tell me because she doesn't want me on a bike.
    • I might be okay with buying used as long as its working and isn't over 15 years old.
    • The RZ15 was just the cheap option that had low running costs and was reliable.

In that case, I'd recommend a standard sport bike (standard upright position when seated on bike) in the ~250 range, 2-cylinders only.

    Bikes in this category:
    Kawasaki Ninja 250R (EX250 / GPX250R)
    Honda CBR250R
    Hyosung GT250R

Bikes that are a bit less than what I'd recommend, however will still get you to school/work and back:
    Yamaha YZF-R125/R15
    Honda CBR125R
(These bikes are single cylinder 125cc bikes. They are incredibly good on gas and cost a hell of a lot cheaper than a car, but their max speed will top out at about ~50mph/80kph in the BEST of conditions. And keep in mind, in order to keep the engine running smoothly for years to come, you don't want to be consistently revving the engine to it's peak performance all the time. I don't personally recommend a 125cc bike. They're essentially glorified mopeds.)

Bikes a little bit more than what you need, but still fit the bill if you can find a good deal and are comfortable with a step up:
    Kawasaki Ninja 500R (EX500/ER-5)
Suzuki GS500F/E (F stands for fairings/E is naked version)
(These motorcycles pack a little more of a punch than the 250s and eat up a tad more gas, but if you plan on highway riding, you'll wish you had bought a 500cc instead. They aren't really that much more difficult to handle than a 250 other than the problem of throttle control, as the 500s pack a LOT more torque as compared to the 250s and especially the 125s.)

I'd suggest looking for any of the bikes I have listed. However, since I'm in the United States and you're in Australia, there may be name differences or bikes that are over there that I don't really think of often. However, I went ahead and listed some of the alternate names for the bikes in parenthesis next to each bike as I could best remember them for you. If you come across a bike you like but I haven't mentioned it here, feel free to ask me about it and I'll give ya a rating on it or something.

Best of luck finding your first bike

Consider the Hyosung 250. Good value bike, and quite reliable from what I've heard.

Make sure you read my entire post before this one. The Ninja 250R is a common suggestion because it is a common bike. But if you ask any of them about the Ninja or any other bike for that matter, they have no idea. Remember to give all of the bikes I listed, and even ones I didn't, a shot. If you have a specific question, throw it out, and I'll do my best to answer it for you.

The Hyosung is the most reliable Chinese bike manufacturer. Unfortunately, that isn't saying much when Lifans, Zongshens, Qianjiangs, etc. are all falling apart every single time someone sits on the seat.

Hyosung is a decent make, but as with any Chinese product, you have a slightly stronger chance at getting a lemon.

That being said, Hyosung is still a decent product if you make sure to cross your T's and dot your I's, inspecting everything to make sure it's not one of those horrid China toilet products. Also, Loncin is a decently nice Chinese make as well. Look out for those too honestly.

In Australia, the best he could do in his price range for an Aprilia is like a '99 RS125.... And they're not even worth the extra that you pay for an Italian name plastered to the still-Asian parts.
