I can't express the level of shit the last two are. But the first is....passable
Hello! I recently downloaded photoshop ( read: today ) and made 3 sprites already that you can see below. The first one was just for following a youtube toturial on how to animate and the second was just for fun. But I made the third to really start practicing, I want to know if i'm on the right track with the shading and what suggestions/pointers you guys might have for me.
EDIT: Forgot to add a question... is the second gif in my sig against the rules?

Not sure what the first one really is about
Tbh I don't know either. Can you give me feedback on the shading of the third? Also, is looking at sprite drawings and copying them and changing them a little a good way to learn the techniques of sprite drawing?
The second one was just for fun , just pay attention to the third's shading not the thing as a whole. That's what I need feedback for, I just painted some random shit to test shading and that's what I need feedback on.
You need more practice.
Alright thanks. Just a question, how ... bad/good were you when you started drawing sprites/pixel art? Also, is looking at sprite bases and copying them and changing them a little a good way to start drawing sprites to get the feel, or is drawing them completely original from the start better?
I wasn't bad because I understood the basic concept and how to shade with pixels, but you have a while to go. What I would suggest for you to do is get a sprite base and play with that and change it around, also if you look at pictures of 8-bit games and try to create the characters or scenes from those, it will help you improve greatly.
