Doesn't look that bad. I think you just need to work with higher quality images and try to use things that don't have so many little details and lines everywhere. They don't translate well into the style in the tut.

Thanks. I've been making sigs for a long time now but this one has to be the most advanced one I have ever made. I had like 20 something layers in it, right at 30. I'll get into more detailed stuff, I just thought i'd take a shot at this.

Eventually you'll get to the stage where I was at with 80+ layers. I think I had a sig with almost 200 layers and had them segmented into 20 different groups.
