Well, Ghost has been one of the best characters in the Modern Warfare series. He died from General Sheperd who shot him and burn him to death after he captured Makarov's Intel.

It has to be named "Ghosts" for a reason. Either it starts from Ghost's past and ends in the future like with "Section" in BO2. I'm expecting that same twist like we saw in bo2, we all thought woods was dead but he is alive. Like Ghost somehow survives, since it was never shown that gas was also poured on Ghost.
