[TUTORIAL] Editing Items

Ok, I've seen a few people interested in editing items (weapons), and some having problems with it, so here's a quick tutorials.

First of all keep these notes in mind.

Damage is most likely server sided, meaning setting damage for a gun to be 999999 probably won't work, if anything, it will ONLY affect you, dealing 999999 damage to you, but normal damage to other people, I haven't tested this to be sure, but that's how most games work.

Safe things to edit in the weapons files and my typical settings:

ObjectTemplate.ammo.magSize -1 (makes unlimited ammo)

objectTemplate.fire.burstSize 10 (This is how many bullets are fired on a burst weapon, usually 3, i make it 10 for lolz)

ObjectTemplate.fire.roundsPerMinute 900 (How many bullets are fired per minutes, set high for a weapon with no delay, auto shotguns)

ObjectTemplate.fire.addFireRate 0=Single-shot 1=Burst 2=Full Auto (buggy on non-auto weapons, sometimes damage wont register)

ObjectTemplate.velocity 1200 (speed of bullets, set high, can snipe planes with shotty)

ObjectTemplate.fire.criticalHitChance 0.99 (Chance of critical hit, set to 99%)


These are the only things I have tested that work.
You can experiment with other things.

Now that you know what you CAN edit, I will tell you HOW.

Things you will need:

WinRar (rarlabs.com)
Eyes
Brain


First, navigate to where you installed battlefield heroes, usually
C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield Heroes\

Then go to the \mods\bfheroes\objects folder

Find Weapons_Server.zip

Open it.

Find the weapon you want to edit, they are named by their description, such as Ger_Pistol_Burst_1

This would be the National pistol that fires in bursts.

Drag the folder of your weapon to somewhere convenient (desktop)

NOTE: KEEP THE ARCHIVE OPEN! WE WILL NEED IT WHEN WE ARE DONE

Open the folder, find the .con file (should be the only one in the folder, but there might be more), right click the file, go to properties, uncheck the box that says Read-Only, then click ok.

Now right click the file and select Open With...

It will ask you if you want to find the program on the web or select it, select it.


In the list of programs find notepad, make sure the box at the bottoms that says use this program to open files of this type is checked, now you can simply double click .con files and they will open in notepad.

Now edit what you want, keeping the notes above in mind, and then just save.

Now

Close the file you just edited and drag the ENTIRE FOLDER back to the archive, it should replace the files that were already there with your newly edited files.

You're done. Now go test you new weapon out or edit some more.


NOTES:

-You can also edit every other item in the game (clothes, vehicles, etc. but I have not managed to find a good way to edit these safely yet, feel free to experiment.

-MAKE SURE TO BACK UP ALL OF YOUR FILES IN CASE YOU WANT TO RETORE THEM !

-Sometimes when you try to connect it will say you have invalid data, but this usually only happens to me once and then when i click play again it never happens again.

You should be in C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield Heroes\Mods\bfheroes\Objects

This was more for people to actually know how to GET to the files and edit them than for any of the specifics on the actual editing.

But please, keep trying, your win is astounding.

As for the poison ability, I believe that's something that is server sided, if you were wanting to increase the ability by editing a file.
I'm about 90% sure abilities are stored with your character on the server instead of client side on a file.
As for editing the knife delay, you could try setting the rate of fire to 2 to make it full auto, I haven't tested it, but it's worth a shot.




Random Note:
I'm working a way to edit the effects of the game, "Skinning" it so to speak, not sure if it's possible or worth it, but will keep you updated as I progress.

Buuh . It's all client side. Half of the time I was firing blanks. I was getting excited too.

yeah if its set to high you shoot blanks and wont get xp or your gonna lagg like crazy
the knife thing i dont use very much since i modded a pistol
