What he said to a certain extent is correct. Taking a background and putting a render onto it is definitely not ripping. I mean that is how many choobs get started out on signature making, but no one cries out ripper to them. However copying layers from elsewhere such as sample/learning psd's and using them in your own sig is ripping.
