Aupair in Germany

I've been thinking about working as an aupair in Germany, and currently there's a family in Mainz searching for a Swede at my age. Bingo.
Anyone here who could tell me a little of Mainz and other important stuff I need to know about Germany?

A little more info.
I just have basic knowledge in German. I used to work at a store some years ago where we had a lot of German customers and I could make myself understood, but I'm a lot better at understanding.
The salary is free accommodation (including a private room with bathroom and wireless network), food, 300€/month + 50€/month as a contribution to a German class. They will also pay for my travels.
So, how's Mainz like? How far do I get in Germany with 300€/month?

Yeah, it often is quite low since they're not searching anyone with experience and I'm going to be learning the language during my visit.
Edit: The employment applies for 6-12 months.

Okay, Germans are usually very open and nice even to strangers (not in a naive way though), when you need help you can easily just ask around and if people are not in a hurry you will get a helping hand pretty fast. If you have problems with communication you can just speak English, English is a requirement for (almost) all school levels in Germany.

About the city, Mainz is the capital of the state Rheinland-Pfalz (midwest Germany), the city is pretty old and has many old protected buildings in the center.
Mainz also has a lot of green space and parks. The city is build around the Rhein, one of the biggest rivers in Germany.

How far will you get with 300€/month in Germany?
That is very good for what is already made available for you.
I have some example prices for standard stuff in Germany.
Bus tickets per tour in Mainz cost 2,00€ (Ages 14+).
Standard cinema tickets for the biggest cinema in Mainz (CineStar) cost from 8€ to 12€.
Basic clothes (T-Shirts, Jeans etc.) in chain stores like H&M and C&A cost from 19€ to 50€.
A ticket for the indoor swimming pool in Mainz costs around 13,50€ (4hrs).

I know that is not really much info so feel free to ask about anything.

I don't know about Mainz but where I live we have standard clubs and bars that are open all night. Its pretty chill I guess.

Ok. When it comes to food I guess it's basicly the same as up here. I've heard that some countries (for example USA and England) puts higher prices at vegetables and healthy food, but I don't believe that the same goes for Germany?

I am not 100% sure but I think that vegetables and healthy(ier) food overall is pretty inexpensive here in Germany (depending on the supermarket, REWE, Lidl, Edeka, Aldi, Penny etc.).
