follow tutorials, and make it how you like it if you know what I mean.

One bad thing people do is get stuck in tutorial land. Never do that. Once you watch a few tutorials and learn the ropes try doing these thigns on your own. And NEVER post stuff you made by following a tutorial. That's what I learnt from doing 3D modelling.

Yes and no. Following tutorials is a good way to learn how to do certain effects and styles. A lot of people think that you just follow a couple tuts and just do your own thing, and more often than not they get stuck in a rut.

I mean like they do 10 tutorials. By that time they can do something on their own and test out there skills. But no, they keep on doing tutorials and at the end they post their artwork that they did by following a tutorial and claim it their own or ask for CnC.
