    Isn't it going to get clunky if you use predictive collision detection using user input and current enemy projectiles? especially if the enemy projectiles share ID's but differ in current location? That aside, the main issue with preventative auto-nexus would seem to me be a heavily dependence on user side input. because unlike bullets which have set and predictable pathing, the players are unpredictable (and sometimes really stupid).

    Ie, user wasn't going to get hit by a cluster of bullets that would 1 shot them, pass complete, user charges into path of bullets like a retard and dies ... blames scrip etc etc...
    that is why the simpler percentage based auto nexus is more reliable.
