OK, I've decided

I am going to watch teh Monogatari series.
But I have some doubts I'd like you to explaing to me before I start:

1.How many series are there and what are the names (in case I miss one or 2)
2.How many episodes are each
3.Is there a connection between them, like, is there a order to follow when watching?

Wise decision! Here's the order:

Kizumonogatari - Movie (supposedly coming out in 2014)
Bakemonogatari - 15 episodes
Nekomongatari - 4 episodes
Nisemonogatari - 11 episodes
Monogatari Series: Second Season - 26 episodes (currently airing, 24 episodes in)

Even though Kizumonogatari hasn't been made yet, it's the prequel to Bakemonogatari. You can watch Bakemonogatari without being confused though.

The order you should watch them is probably isn't the order they came out in..


Bakemonogatari first.(if it gets slow during the Mayoi-snail-arc, you can skip that, it's not tremendously important and as long as you know the gist of what mayoi is, it's ok. To be honest on my first watch I did skip this part.).
-13-14 episodes.

Nekomonogatari second. (explains just shortly before bakemonogatari and hanekawa's past, which is the ending arc of bakemonogatari).
-Movie length

Nisemonogatari third(personally my favorite)
-11 episodes

The current season: Monogatari Series Second: Last.(it's good and resolves a LOT of stuff, but you need to have watched Bake/Nise/Neko to understand even the first arc.)
-Currently at 21 episodes, if you don't count the "review" episodes(go by commie scans)

As to what each season is about:

Bakemonogatari: Introduces the characters and gives them each their own arc in relation to the main character Koyomi.
-Yes some of the important characters later are only met briefly in the first season.

Nekomonogatari: Focuses on Hanekawa's actions in golden week.

Nisemonogatari: Focuses on the fire-sisters, Kaiki and Shinobu.


Monogatari series second: Focuses on Hanekawa, Mayoi, Shinobu, Sengoku, and Kaiki. Each of them having their own arc.

Okay, once I finish the animes im watching now, I will start. Curiously, I first started with bakemonogatari, watched till ep3 (the crab god part or something).
A bit confusing, I thought I was missing something but I will rewatch it and go to the end.

I attempted to watch the -gatari series. But I started from Monogatari. It made no sense to me whatsoever, so I was confused as fuck. But now that I know the order, maybe i'll pick it up again.

I can only imagine how confusing that would be not knowing Hanekawa coming in lol.
