New Phone

I just recently switched plans from Verizon to T-Mobile... Which means I got a new phone. I went from an iPhone 5 to a Nexus 5. It's okay so far, Huge screen and all, but there is a huge problem. I have already tried Googleing the problem, and nothing has fixed it.

I am able to send texts and have the opposite party receive the texts, but when they send me a text, I cannot get it. The only person I can receive texts from is my mom.

So, if you have an android and have had this problem, please tell me how to fix it. We are most likely going to go into the store tomorrow and have them fix it for us or something.

Hmm. Let's see.. I downloaded some apps. Hotspot shield, Dumb Ways To Die, Flappy Bird (High score is 38), iFunny, Bloons TD Battles, MPGH App.

The first time I went into the default SMS, which is Hangout, it said I had to confirm my phone number. So I did. Couldn't receive messages still. So I then went into my settings and confirmed that the Hangout app was the Default SMS app. After that, I downloaded some other texting apps such as Textra. It still didn't work.

And currently, I am only playing games on it...

No. I have been in many skype calls with different friends telling them to text me back... They said the message was never delivered or anything.

Hangouts isn't SMS. It's an IM-Service.

Get a friend, and get him to send you a text when next to him, see if the issue is a certain individual or you.

Are you saying I can't receive messages from people with iPhones? Because all the people who can't text me, are using iPhone.

I had this problem when I got my Galaxy S4.

When you first use your iPhone, Apple will automatically, without asking you, sign you into their text message service called iMessage. When this happens, regular text messages are hijacked and ran through Apple's servers (iPhone to iPhone). They basically use your phone number as a handle now instead of a direct address. Even after you set up your new phone, destroy/deactivate/transfer SIM cards, Apple still holds onto your phone number with the iMessage service.

What I had to do was reboot my old iPhone, go into Settings and turn off iMessage and activate Send as SMS. You'll need to then unregister your Apple ID with your phone. On the devices lists, click Edit Products, then click the x that appear to the right of the phone to delete it. https://daw.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObj...language=US-EN

Double check the settings on your iPhone to make sure iMessage is off and Send as SMS is on then turn off your iPhone. Reboot your new phone and things should start working accordingly. You may need to tell your friends who own iPhones to change your phone type on your contact information to Mobile instead of iPhone. They may need to hit Send as Text Message to get the first few through.

After I did all this, everything worked fine and still does.
