restart the internet device , uninstall and reinstall crossfire . maybe that might help

That usually occours when CF server is unstable or something is stopping the conection to CF server, such like a hack/hack tool or a bad conection.

Check your conection's settings, firewall, router/modem and cables; be sure to don't have any detected hack/hack tool in use or installed.

-Try deleting all the temporal files ((...) for XP: Start>>My PC>>right click on your hard disk icon>>Properties>>General>>Free space in disk, then wait untill it loads, uncheck every option except by "Temporal internet files" and "Temporal files" and click Ok).

Go C:/WINDOWS/System32/drivers/etc, then search for a file named"hosts". If there is "hosts", "hosts2" or "hosts(something)", that could be your problem; the correct file is "hosts", if there are other variants like I told before, delete them. If there is only "hosts" and no variants, then try modifying the file as I say with variants on the next line. If there is just the variant, but not "hosts", such like there is just "hosts2", then you must modify it: double click on it, on the message choose "select a program from a list", then select wordpad or notepad. There is a text and some lines below, erase any line related to Z8Games, G4Box, SmileGate, CrossFire, Xtrap, etc. (adress + name + description, ex.: 190.192.58.0 z8games.com clan page.), close the window, and choose save changes from the message. Now, restart your pc, and try again...

DON'T DELETE LMHOSTS.SAM, IT'S NOT A VARIANT, IT'S ANOTHER DIFFERT FILE.

Do a full disk scan with your anti-virus, and check in system32 ([local disk]/WINDOWS/system32) folder for any file that may be affecting CrossFire (in case you had used hack before or you think there may be something remaining from anything you have installed related to CF).

(...) go to the system configuration tool (Start>>Execute>>msconfig) and check in services and startup tabs for any suspicious (or unnecessary) process, unable them, click apply, and then Ok.

You could also try to restore your system to a point it worked fine (Start>>Execute>>msconfig>>Start System restore, choose "restore my computer to a previous state" then click Next, set the date, click Next, again click Next and wait for your computer to finish the process, restart and show up a message telling you it has finished, then close the message).
