Black Ops 2 Fatal Error (Single Player)

Yello!

My game keeps crashing with a black screen, and a new window pops up with the Fatal Error "Free does not match allocation" (screenshot attached)


Here's how it happens:
-I resume the game
-Reach a specific point in mission
-crash

Also, as soon as I press restart mission, game crashes with the same fatal error.


(please note that I had previously crossed that point in-game, but had to restart the mission because I messed up the achievement unlock)

Some key things:
-Game is steam version
-Already checked game cache (Steam>black ops 2>properties>local files>verify integrity of game cache..)
-I've tried running the game on lowest video setting, still no luck.
-Graphic driver is up to date.
-Laptop specs: i7, nvidia GT750m, 8Gb ram.

I'll try that.
I searched on Google regarding this, and it turns out that many players had this problem but can't seem to find a solution. So they've given up playing lol Tried re-installing etc, still no luck. Always crashes at the same point. For others, it crashes at a fixed point in different missions. Donno what could be wrong

Btw pcdev as in bo2 game devs? Or something else?

Yes, he is a BO2 dev.
Tweet him/them or add them on Steam.

Finally I got it to work.

What you need to do is replay the previous mission, and then do that mission again where the game crashed.
The game is story based and you get to decide how to end it. So if you change the story, and then try the same mission again trying to change the story, the game crashes. Unless you replay the previous mission and reach the next mission Again, it will keep crashing. Nothing to do with game cache integrity etc., it's something with the save files of the story mode (of how it progresses).
