"We all know how Watch Dogs went from a groundbreaking E3 demo to visually humdrum open world game. While Ubisoft never officially acknowledged it purposely downgraded the game, the same is already happening with another Ubi title, The Division, according to "insider information" posted by Whatifgaming. The insider claims that the Swedish developer, Ubisoft Massive, has been forced to cut back some features to accommodate the PS4 and Xbox One versions and prevent the PC version from looking superior in comparison.
"It definitely is not just stability but marketing politics plays into this a lot as well," the source said.
It looks like console manufacturers and publishing executives are actively putting pressure on developers to deliver platform parity and "not to alienate people into thinking that next generation is not as powerful as PC".
Of those features that have been cut the source mentions screen space reflections which have been reduced "a lot". While still looking good, the source says not to expect the same level of detail as seen in the reveal demo."

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Fucking Ubisoft, this is why I'm going to torrent.
Meh, just wait for the mod, that brings back the visuals you saw before like with watch dogs .
You were seeking strength, justice, splendour.
You were seeking love.
Here is the pit, here is your pit.
Its name is Silence..

Whilst the argument can be made here that the consoles are responsible, if you really think about it, they aren't in this case. If the developer is purposely axing features from the PC to achieve parlarity with the consoles that everyone knows aren't as up to scratch as the modern PC, then it's clearly the developers fault.
Why develop a new engine (Snow Drop) and absolutely kill it on where it would be shown best (The PC)? Ubisoft you silly company!
What other options do we have now days though, there's Activision with their copy/paste sagas every year, EA with their own copy/paste saga every year and herendous online pitfalls.
Anyone seeing an industry collapsing?
(unlikely to happen, just adds emphasis)

That's what I've been thinking about for the past few days.
What is there to look forward to the upcoming years ? Not much
Let's make an overview :
- Pay to win CoD on top of their €120 (pre-order to receive weapons, and it's only going to get worse)
- Pay to win BF on top of their €120 (pre-order to receive weapons, and it's only going to get worse with how Pay to win BF4 just got)
- Other MP games that just keep failing over and over again (Titanfall the most recent example)
- Singleplayer games that keep failing (Watch Dogs the most recent example)
I've been catering towards F2P games the past few weeks because we're just out of options. Even if it's a F2P game where you need to make a purchase to make it more fun or playable, it still is cheaper compared to the big €120 titles. Triple A games have been letting us down, and I see no savior in the foreseeable future.
