ELI5: Can someone explain what Realm Relay is?

What is the purpose of Realm Relay and what is it?
I tried searching for it but all I could find was scripts(?) and codes etc etc.

ELI5(a common reddit phrase), for those who doesn't know, means "Explain like I'm five" which seems pretty self-explanatory, would be really appricated :-)
