Climbing Capitol Peak and Snowmass Mountain in Colorado

Going backpacking with a friend tomorrow, and we're setting out to summit Capitol Peak (14,130 ft), and then descend back down, hike around, and then climb Snowmass Mountain (14,099 ft). For those who are into mountain climbing, you'll probably know how god damn dangerous Capitol Peak is, if even for the Knife Edge section alone.

This is the shit I'm talking about, 2000+ ft drops on either side of incredibly unstable ground:


When all calculated out, you'd free-fall for approximately 11 seconds before hitting the ground.
There have been more than a few cases of this happening, and every single person instantaneously died on impact.


On paper we'd probably take the Capitol-Snowmass traverse to get over to Snowmass, but it's incredibly difficult. My dad is good friends with a guy he met as an MP in the army, and this guy has literally summitted Mount fucking Everest, and still says that the Capitol-Snowmass traverse is the most hellish thing he has ever hiked. Anyway, I'm going to be gone for 2-3 days, so wish me luck.

I really enjoy hiking, I've been on a few trips with my school and a few other with family, the highest I've ever climbed is Ben Nevis (4,409ft), I can't imagine what it'd be like at over triple that height but I'd love to know. Try not to die, I'd love to hear about it once you get back.
