WICHITA, Kan. — Emergency crews are on scene of a plane crash at Mid-Continent Airport.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says a twin-engine Beechcraft King Air 200 reported losing engine power just after takeoff around 9:50 a.m. Thursday.

Molinaro says the plane crashed into a building on airport property while attempting to return to the runway. The plane reportedly hit the north building of FlightSafety International Cessna pilot's center.

The Wichita Fire Department confirms two people who were inside the building have died. Five other people have been injured, and five others are unaccounted for. More than 100 people were inside the building when the crash happened.

Those injured have been taken to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital. One has critical injuries, three others are in fair condition and the fifth is being assessed.

The pilot was the only person on the plane, but it's unclear how badly he or she was hurt.

Wichita Police are asking that residents avoid the area unless they have a flight to catch.
