Possible; highly unlikely.

Essentially the reason for it is some people without a degree have enough experience to compensate but what a degree literally does is: prove you've gone through a higher education and passed, thus demonstrating your knowledge immediately, and you're probably more reliable, subjectively speaking.

I'd only hire people with degrees, just because it's less riskier and less uncertainty, not because I think they're more smarter. If I'm going to pay training costs, I should come out making a net positive.

As an employee:
Degree => higher payed.

As an employer:
Degree => has been mentally tested for four years and came out on top.

Unless the applicant has experience to compensate for a degree, with very solid proof, I think I would always go with a degree as well as would most employers.
