    - Deep Thinking

Easy question, not such an easy answer. I've always thought about it as a child.

Who named things, where did these words even come from and why were they given that name? Everyone knows that a tree is a tree or a table is a table. But why?

Yes there are different languages, but they all recognize as the same object and translated word.

Or maybe I'm being a confused idiot.

I have the same question too. Who came up with the names of the colors? How do we all know to call red as red? What if red was called blue and blue was called red?

thats not deep thinking that's just over thinking. words are verbal associations and meanings can differ from region to region.

There's nothing to discuss. Everything is already answered. You want me to repeat what's already been said and form a "discussion"? That's just spam buddy.

Plenty to discuss, no proven facts. Read other posts. Called input etc. Not your sarcastic shit.

Did you even read the fucking article that I linked you?
. . . The foundation of his project is breaking down our idea of a word into its component parts: the concept and the sound-image.

    --

. . . according to Saussure the only function of the word “tree” is to be different from every other word. For all he cares it could be “blarg” as long as every speaker of a language recognizes that “blarg” signifies a leafy wooded plant.
Okay, let's look into it more. From: https://www.alphadictionary.com/articles/ling008_a.html
. . .In fact, medical and legal vocabulary can easily be derived from Latin and Greek roots to this day.

    --

Latin and Greek belong to the same family as Proto-Germanic, a family that developed from Proto-Indo-European (PIE). This is the earliest language about which we have any knowledge from which European languages (and those of India) developed.

    --

Although English owes its greatest lexical debt to Greek and Latin, it has borrowed generously from other languages as well: Scandinavian, Hindi, Yiddish, various East European languages and, of course, North American native languages.
Where did the very first word originate from? There's nothing to scientifically back it, but a lot of people support the theory of language developing organically as sound became linked to ideas and objects.

I thought about this a lot as a kid, but honestly there's not a whole lot to discuss. No one here is going to make a scientific breakthrough that wasn't already discovered and/or proven/denied elsewhere. What is known and what is theory is just things that researchers find throughout the years.

Yes. Theories. Sounds and image comparison in the minds of those who originally named them. Still doesn't explain everything.

well , actually the things was given their name just because people felt the need to recognize them and it could be even different names , this is how we got a lot of languages all over the world though
