    What do, what do?

As many of you know I am pretty good with computer hardware and some of you also no I am currently unemployed and I have a rather old computer. This is the basis of my dilemma. I call upon the population of MPGH to help me out.

    My current specs are
    CPU: Intel C2D e6750
    Mobo: Asus P5KR
    RAM: 2GB Apacer DDR2
    GPU: 8800GTS 512MB
    PSU: Vantec 460w

In it's current state it plays every game I throw at it. HOWEVER the newer games are beginning to run poorly and I'm finding myself drop the resolution and details lower and lower. Also, due to frequent crashes and hangs not only whilst gaming but also through Photoshop and intensive browsing I'm starting to think that my RAM is the main culprit. I also Blue Screen quite a bit.

My question is should I garner $100 to upgrade my RAM to perhaps 4GB, or do you think I should try and save up $300-400 to get a new CPU/RAM/MOBO combo. If so which components would you recommend both budget wise and performance wise. Try not to say buy a complete system as I don't have the means to buy a whole new system (if I did I wouldn't be making this thread)

Have you un-installed programs/games you played in the past and/or don't play anymore?

Yeah I usually do, cept I have 1.5TB for games and software, so I don't see why that'd be an issue.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Just thought I'd ask in case.

You're going to want the speed benefits of ddr3 man, ddr2 just wont cut it in the long run once newer gen games start coming out. No point in upgrading your graphics card extensively because your cpu will begin to bottleneck. If you lived in the US you would have no problem with your budget getting a new pc up and running. You might want to talk to Boss (Roger Smith) about finding decent deals on components in the land down under.

Out of all your parts, the first one I would probably upgrade would be the RAM. 2GB isn't enough, much less DDR2. There are some good deals for 4GB DDR3 sticks all over the place, then you might want to consider upgrading your CPU or GPU :3

I know what you mean. The only noticeable downside for my GPU right now is the lack of native DX11 support.

Your ram is fine, go buy a better processor. processor determines the speed, ram doesn't play that much of a role considering the circumstances

Already did using, AVG, Avast, MalwareBytes, heck I even ran a copy of Norton for shits and gigs. My comp is totally free of viruses/malware. But it's still shitting itself.

If anything, have you reformatted lately?

Not since I got my new hdd. I probably will reformat before I buy anything. If it still plays up I guess I'll need to buy a new system.

Here are some prices of the components I was looking to get.

Get some cheap ASUS 1155 Motherboard.
    i5 2500k maybe or 2500?
    And 6 or 8GB RAM.
    mWave is pretty cheap.
Or you can go to msy .com.au which is much cheaper but you have to pick up.
And for graphics card, get ATI Radeon 5770.
    Quite cheap and it's GDDR5.

The benefit of going that way would mean I don't have to upgrade cpu/ram for a while, but it'll still be hard for me to get the cash.

Well for now get a graphics card and a new PSU.
I used to have that processor.
Gave that to my little sister.
    It's fine.
    But RAM you should upgrade.
