I'm getting a laugh out of this thread.
I'm probably older than most of the people here,
I grew up with all the oldie consoles/old pc games.
As much as I enjoyed them, and still enjoy them I think we need to be realistic.
The technological advance in gaming only brings more dynamics to games.
Lets take the battlefield series for instance. This game isn't some run around and lonewolf to win game.
Unless you hack, you have to depend heavily on your squad
because each class benefits from one another.
Your Engineer repairs and destroys tanks,
your Recon does basically just that and alerts you to near by enemies while killing at range,
Your medic heals the wounded while strapped with a massive lmg and large gunbelt,
    your Assault resupplies ammo.
It's how you play the game that makes it enjoyable. I rarely see good squad play in FPS games anymore.
I think the Ghost Recon series was the only games I played where people knew that was the way to do it.
Now there's an example of gameplay dynamics. What about graphics?
There's nothing sicker than playing a pc game on high settings if you have a dope monitor.
It's crazy how back in the day a new console would drop, and I'd flip at how great the graphics were..
Now we got HD ready consoles, insane graphics cards and beautiful looking games like Skyrim.

So, yah. As much as I love the oldies..I'm more excited about the present and future of gaming as a whole.

Because it's open world and unique. There is really no objectives in Minecraft..it's like playing the Sims, cept you get to build shit.
Graphics always mattered in video games..why the hell do you think they've evolved to look like they do today?
This is a business of supply and demand, so obviously the general consensus of gamers wanted better graphics..me included.
(Got bored with Minecraft pretty quickly)

The thing is better graphics != better gameplay. That's the point with the whole graphics dont matter deal. Graphics dont make the game. The gameplay does.

If they didn't matter than games would still look like pac-man.

I agree with you, I'd rather play a game that handles well opposed to simply being pretty to look at.

BUT, I also think a good game these days should have both of those elements, and that's certainly what developers strive for.
