    i7-3770K vs FX-8150

I was pretty sure I was going to upgrade to a 3770K after reading the performance review of the FX-8150 vs it. It manages to hold it's own in games, but when it comes to applications, it's up to 10% slower than the 3770k. However it just hit me that I was paying a 75% premium on the 3770K for a maybe 10% performance gain.

Are there any reasons not to get the FX-8150?

I had a bad experience with AMD, and it kinda left me bitter, though I'm 90% sure it was the motherboard, so I'm not so scared to try again. Also, I'd rather give my money to a company that doesn't abuse their position instead of competing.

Get the i5 3570K, it is the same price and it is so much better.

    How's the 3570K better? i5 part especially (which isn't high end) :/

I'm starting to second guess the FX-8150 because it isn't that thermal efficient. Since my computer is always on, I rather not turn my room into an oven. 77w vs 125w is quite significant. Trying to stay away from liquid cooling, don't have any experience with it, and might forget to change the liquid.

i5 pretty much almost always beat 8150 in gaming. Not to mention if you plan on overclocking the 8150 it uses a shitload more energy than your i5.

Ugh, no hyper threading support so it's a legit 4 core. But it's almost exactly equivalent to the 3770K, just missing HT.

I'm investigating the liquid cooling: https://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...erReviewsBlock

Doesn't seem bad, pair it with a 8150 and it wouldn't be bad.

Desktop Ivy Bridge. Intel Core i7-3770K and Core i5-3570K Processors Review. Page 5 - X-bit labs

That site has good benchmarks. The 8150 almost always get beaten.

    That's not a beating, that's a slaughter.

AMD FX-8150 vs Intel Core i7-3770K (Click the performance tab), looks like it gets blown away to 3770K, looks like the motherboard makes a big difference. God dammit, why does this shit gotta be so complicated.

I think Im 99% sure going with 3770K cuz I upgrade about every 3-4 years, so better get a little future proof.

Good choice, personally I still think the 8150 is still awful for the price.

My experiences with AMD have been bad... but it was a long ass time ago (first pc) so...

But yeah, best bang for your buck if you think you're getting a better deal with an AMD go with an AMD, if you think you're getting a better investment with an INTEL go with that. You don't necessarily need an ivybridge, you could go with a sandy if you find a good deal. My 2600k underclocked stomps shit a year after I got it.

Get the Intel i7. The AMD has it's performance split up in 8 cores and the i7 has it in 4.
Most games can only use 2 cores, so in theory you should get twice game performance with the Intel. I know there are many other factors, but this means a lot for gaming, if that is what you do.

Another thing is, that you need a AMD mobo for the AMD (obviously) and their sockets is older than Intels, so they might make a new at some point within the coming years. And then you could need a new mobo next time you upgrade.

Yeah, I suck ad drawing lines...

That is not how cores and CPUs work, Bulldozer is just a poorly designed architecture.

I think that motherboard is better, seems to have better features, like built in WiFI and Blue tooth, holy hell that's pretty epic.

    Not really. An i5 underclocked @ 2.5GHz will still be faster than a P4 @ 5.0GHz.
