Hello I am looking into making a game.. I want it to be 2d, and possibly multiplayer. The multiplayer would work like minecraft's, instead of a main server, they are all private-esque servers, but thats later on! I am wondering what engine I should use? I am hoping to indie dev this game. Though there are a ton of idea's still being tossed around. The main question I am having is... What is a good engine to start off with?
I do know some scripting knowledge, but not enough to build a game from the ground up. And I downloaded love before, but when I opened it this piggy face with hearts spiraling around it appeared, and just never went away? Like I couldn't do anything that's all that showed.. I'm on a tight budget though, and can't afford torque.
Um I have downloaded and tried unity, but it's more targeted towards 3d, and alittle much for me. I've made flash games before, but flash to a 3d engine is alittle big of a jump for me.
Flash isn`t a game engine o_0 Its a framework. Like arun said, there is no need to rule it out. And, its a much better option than say Java, for deploying software via the webbrowser (because the Java platform is installed on much fewer machines, Flash platform is on virtually every machine.)
With that said, I`m not sure which kind of game engines there are that are built over flash (I don`t usually work in flash...) but there are a few if you look around.
There are two types of tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want, the other is getting it.
