    New technology...

if you go on Ebay you can still find old tech that is still working. Consoles, radios, TV's, camcorders, VHS players etc. they were built to last, but it seems that tech now is so finely tuned for the current market, that it breaks so easily, i cant see a PS3, Xbox, flat screen TV etc that is currently available still being in working order 5, 10 or 20 years down the line.

older stuff that would break, it was a simple case of getting a part replaced and it would keep working, but now if something breaks, it's either replace the whole thing or buy a new one.

What do you think about this?

PS : Apple fits perfect in this <.<

If you aren't a dirty neanderthal then you probably won't break newer technology.

It has more to do with offshore manufacturing, the entire product isn't built and assembled in one place. Certain *cough* asian *cough* sub-manufacturers for components in electronics noticeably skim out on quality, so where as 1 in 5, lets say capacitors, and know their part won't last a full 3 years that is covered on warranty, but it's 40% cheaper to make, and some of the savings passed off onto the product manufacturer. Both management of the manufacturers get a nice fat bonus for "saving money" for the companies. Now a lot of these companies have 3 year warranties, and not everyone knows, but in the end, the cost of the manufacturer repairing or replacing it is cheaper than giving a quality part. That's the cost of cheap electronics.

There is a whole study of maximizing profits by understanding product failure rates. It generally looks like bell curve, with the maximum of the curve is at 5 years, and when they offer 3 year warranties, they know that the cost of repairing these products that happen before the 3 year term is cheaper than offering a quality product.

However, there are still some companies, mostly american but by no means all, that offer high quality products, but are generally significantly more expensive.

In the end, you get what you pay for, quite literally.
