    Windows Messenger is going?

I found this on a site about windows messenger,

Microsoft Rumored To Be Axing Windows Live Messenger In Favor Of Skype.

Windows Live Messenger has been Microsoft’s IM client for the past 13 years. It has served the company well, but it might a little redundant now that Microsoft also owns Skype. It appears that Microsoft is thinking the same thing.

Speaking to multiple sources, The Verge reports that Microsoft is axing its old Windows Live Messenger client in favor of Skype. The company will integrate Messenger into Skype to keep everybody on the same page.

The move would follow the launch of Skype on Windows 8. The Skype app ties into the same Microsoft account used for Windows Live Messenger. It only makes sense to tie everything into a single account instead of forcing Messenger users to switch between different messaging clients. Skype represents a unified brand that Microsoft can tap into for Windows 8.

The Verge says that Microsoft will announce the retirement of Windows Live Messenger before the end of the year. The announcement may even come this week if everything works out. It will mark the end of an era that was becoming increasingly obsolete over the years.

The rise of SMS and other mobile messaging solutions has made sure that IM services aren’t used as much as they once were. Skype is unique as it provides all the services that the mobile communicator needs in a single service. The latest version even lets users log in to Skype via Facebook which could lead to even more adoption.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment, and will update if we hear back.

UPDATE: A Microsoft spokesperson just got back to us with the usual: “We do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

What do you think about this?

I personally think, WLM Should stay as it is, as it's kind of a unique Messenger, unique as in just different in the way of it's been with some of us for our entire child/teenager life, but they said they would integrate it into skype which could be interesting.

Even slower than Sam. God damn, keep up. And I think it's a good business decision but may lead to bad implications with Skype. Don't want them to fuck it over like they did with Messenger.

I hope they take both messaging services, take pieces from them, use creativity and then release a new messaging service, they better not just take MSN and dump some crap onto skype from MSN, with technology advancing like every 3months, they need to think of something new, both these services are outdated in my opinion, but since MSN has been around for a lot longer, it's kind of survived as an antique.

Skype > Messenger, and thats it.

If you want you can import those contacts to skype and done. Why would they have 2 application that do the same? They are pretty much getting rid of the one that sucks (Messenger). Microsoft is doing well. Period.

We've yet to see if they are doing well. So far Microsoft had no reason to interfere with Skype development other than getting it to work on their new platforms. Now with Messenger out of the equation they'll have a lot more to say about the future of Skype. With how everything else is turning out for M$ this doesn't bode well.

Tbh, MSN is getting a bit old. Microsoft probably wants innovation. Not that many people uses MSN compared to Skype.

It's purely a move to boost activity on both Skype's and Microsofts end. Microsoft saves money by swapping over the development team for MSN to another department, they also gain an advertisement bonus from skype, and skype gets a surplus of new users and possibly customers. I haven't read a single thing stating Microsoft and Skype were going to be working "together", only simply that Skype was going to be the new native messenger service.
