yes you do not have to buy everything the kindle fire uses a customized version of the android os so you can still do everything like you would any other android. the drivers will give you hell at first if youre running windows 7 64 bit but other than that you shouldnt run into any other issues.

I've been tempted to ask for one of these for Christmas. Three questions tho.
    1. How does it function as a tablet, such as games, internet browsing
    2. How does it function as a kindle? the reading aspect, and can you transfer books from your old kindle to the fire?
    3. Is the normal Fire or the Fire HD better?

I think a nexus tablet will serve you better than a fire will in terms of hardware for the price. Google operates at a loss or at cost to sell these tablets because they're banking on getting income through google play and ads for apps you use. All of that means you get a good deal for your money.

A real suggestion, after having a quick look at it it's looks pretty good - thanks.

Already decided on no with the Kindle Fire HD becausde it doesn't support 3g... Automatically assumed it would have, not sure why.

But yeah, Nexus 7 looks nice.

Yeah I think I'll go with the Nexus 7 32 gig, only 250$ off of Walmart. Sadly doesn't support an external USB slot, BUT it does have 32 gigs of its own so I think that counters it. Kindle Fire seems a bit limited with apps, doesnt support Google Play.

Also do all Nexus 7 versions support 4g? or is there a particular one...?

You might be able to get it cheaper going direct: Nexus 7

Still deciding on this, iPad is definitely not an option...

So i'm looking at the Fire HD or the Nexus...

Any final opinions? I've decided i'm not bothered about 3G because at my work we have a BT hotspot. So just wifi will suffice.
