    Hybrid Notebook Computers (Tablet/Laptop)

Do you think this will be a permeate product in our shelves or is it just appealing to a niche market?

I personally think the concept is a good idea, but some manufacturers designs leave the product to be easily damaged if dropped once.

If you own or have fiddled around with these hybrids, what are thoughts on these tablet/notebook computers.

Think of it as more of a hybrid, having the advantages of touch and a laptop all in one! Implementing the touch displays into laptops means that windows 8 is being/can be used to fullest functionality.

I find it kinda weird since what you do on a laptop, can probably be done on a tablet, and vice-versa.

Yes and No! Whilst you are correct there are those times when it's just necessary to have a keyboard on hand and the ability to have a mouse when needed.

There would be specific touch based games and normal PC games! As the normal PC games don't have any active touch areas the only thing they could possibly move would be the mouse, but then again the touch interface should have an option to disable it entirely or have an exception list or game mode hotkey.

I would get one simply because it's tablet sized and I can use it as a tablet or a laptop with full Windows functionality, therefore easy portable gaming of all sorts.

There is an older generation of technology called tablet laptops or table laptop hybrids, which are basically a full sized laptop that often doesn't have touch compatibility and its main feature is really that it's monitor and can swivel and make it seem basically like you're holding a screen in your hand.

The new term coined by Intel "Ultrabook Convertible" seems to fit these specifications:
smaller than a laptop around 14" and under
    Thin as an ultrabook
A screen that swivels over the base part of the notebook to make it into a touchscreen tablet
Can run the full version of Windows 8, therefore you can switch between having a more convenient tablet experience or a full Windows enviroment.

+1 For adding a detailed description! Their advertisement though is a bit far fetched don't you think? Inciting that normal notebook computers are equivalent to dinosaurs and this is the only way forward

It's not going to become the standard. It is a niche product, however it's a mainstream niche product so it will be seen around from now on. It may have a boost in sales and popularity now, but when people start having major issues with them they will become annoyed. They are also unable to be customized, and people want thin tablets which reduces any possibility of customizable tabtops to near nothing. I see them being sold, however not as a replacement.

Eh, Ultrabook Convertibles seem novel, cool, and fun now, but I think the hype will die down eventually. I think the invention is a good one, it's just that the novelty will wear off and people will want to have portability while getting a good bang for their buck and get a standard laptop. Just as when iPad first made tablet PCs known and cool, everyone wanted one and now it's kind of meh, because, the novelty has worn-off and people consider the fact they can get more spec for less with a laptop which is also portable.
    ~
As long as standard laptops keep having more functionality (programs-wise) and a better price to performance ratio, neither tablets nor ultrabook convertibles will be toppling standard laptops when it comes to portable computing.
