    Recent shootings

In light of the news from Connecticut I wanted to share something written less than half a year ago-- sadly it was that recently that a score of defenseless people had to die for someone else's "right" to own semi-automatic weapons.

"The reality is simple: every country struggles with madmen and ideologues with guns, and every country—Canada, Norway, Britain—has had a gun massacre once, or twice. Then people act to stop them, and they do—as over the past few years has happened in Australia. Only in America are gun massacres of this kind routine, expectable, and certain to continue."

The reality is still simple. One by one these events are national tragedies, but our preference to treat them as human interest stories rather than as the urgent consequences of a critical policy failure is more of a national farce. No one can say what makes a person take a weapon to a movie theater or a school with the intention of hurting as many people as possible. But anyone who isn't intentionally shielding themselves from the facts can tell you which policies make those intentions actionable.

I, for one, have realized that it is time for change and would even go so far as to deem abolishing the Second Amendment as necessary.

There are tons of shootings in the USA every year, the media will run them more frequently due to the recent massacre in the elementry school. The USA is the only country that responds to such massacres by throwing more weapons into circulation, rather then more strictly regulating them.

There was the columbine massacre as well. I could list tons of massacres in the last 20 years in the USA.

There are two types of tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want, the other is getting it.

If you wake up at a different time in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?

What's absurd is that nothing is ever done about this. The gun control laws passed in the 90s are mediocre at best and don't protect us as they should. I hope that in his second term Obama shows his true liberal self and cracks down on this issue.

Since you mentioned Columbine, I believe that should have been enough of a kick in the ass for politicians to begin having these laws written.

No to abolishing the second amendment. Yes to banning assault rifles again.

If you take a look back at the major mass shootings over the years you will see a pattern.

Ar-15's were used, in the case of the DC sniper, a Bushmaster .223 (pretty much a civilian grade m-16)

You put an extended 50 round clip on these guns, and the shooter has the capability of firing upon multiple targets without the need to reload.
These guns are overkill, and don't need to be in the hands of civilians.
There also needs to be a nationwide update to the screening process of future gun owners.
Physical psyche evaluations would be a pretty good start.
I understand this won't solve all of the problems,
but it will certainly make it harder on your neighborhood psychopath to go shoot up a school or movie theater.

Seriously though, by bullets, a home-made bomb, toxic gas, you name it. The people who carry out these massacres will always find a way. We shouldn't be focusing on how to disarm them, but rather why they perpetrate them.

You're a fucking moron, abolish the second Amendment? Grow up.

If someone is adamant on shooting up a kindergarten, they're going to find a gun. Do you honestly believe abolishing the second Amendment will do shit? Do you realize how many unregistered firearms there are in this country? Do you even understand that people CAN MAKE THEIR OWN GUNS? Seriously, go get yourself a fucking education because you obviously have no intelligence what so ever.

I'm not an uneducated person and there's no reason to get snippy. The Connecticut shooter didn't plan for months to shoot up an elementary school, he just snapped and had easy access to a gun. He was described by people who grew up with him and who lived near him as a "ticking time bomb" and a "disaster waiting to happen". The 2nd amendment is outdated. When it was added to the Constitution there weren't guns that could slaughter a crowd in a minute, there weren't guns that could be fired thirty times before needing to be reloaded. I guarantee if he had gone in there with a knife or even a sword that the death toll would have been 4 tops and he would have been captured instead of getting a chance to kill himself quickly.

Please explain to me why one has to own a gun.

Additionally, based on your post, I'm pretty sure you're one of the gung-hoe gun wielders that I would prefer not to have a gun. You like one that would shoot first then ask questions later.

Removing the 2nd amendment is just how I feel on this.

Stupid quote, very stupid quote. Yes, people are the ones squeezing the trigger, but the guns are the tools making massacres on such a large scale as these possible.

I don't know if you all realize this, but this shooting was deadlier than Columbine and beaten only by the Virginia Tech shooting. That's fuckin' insane.
