I despise anything that gets any sort of mainstream success. Not because I'm a hipster, but because mainstream music sucks Elephant Balls.
What if your favourite band all of a sudden gets coverage on mtv or some shit, their music videos go viral and all of a sudden they're mainstream. Hating something because it's mainstream is a cop out and a bullshit excuse. Hating something because it's shit is valid.
I guess it depends on what you listen to. I'm really excited to be listening to current hip hop because its becoming a product of the work done by people who grew up in the 90's and 2000's i.e. people my age and its really astounding to see the creativity coming out of hip hop because of it. There are some seriously legendary things going on right now that will impact the future of hip hop. For example the remix of Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe with Kendrick and Jay-Z is super symbolic of a major shift happening right now.
