They aren't flat at all. My SRH840's specialize in mid-range, the dynamics are flat but the frequency response is fine. Maybe a bit more automation here and there on the frequency filter (just a tad nothing drastic, slow rise slow fall would sound sick). Other than that is sounds great.

Bass is very clear and sounds great, just wish it was a bit more powerful.
I am the seer in the dark,
    the vagabond of yore,
    valediction.
I am the sum of all your parts,
    and proprietor of all.
    A miasma,
    the conclusion,
    blackmonger of Inl,
    valediction.
    Synapses fray,
    my form now vivid,
as torpor sets and blood grows tepid.
With every ounce of flesh now offered,
I hold your corpse within my coffers.
    Knitted cells now split asunder,
    stand alongside me brother.
Take your place amongst my Owsla,
we march at dawn now and forever.

What you can do is re-route the lower mids and the bass to a single bus channel and add parallel compression to it, then widen the overall sound in the master to give the lower mids and the bass a boost. After that, you can boost the upper mids and the high frequencies to level out what's left. I would actually suggest automation to have the upper mids and the high frequencies phase in and out of each other to give a slow pumping feel to it.

And for new speakers, you can always do what I did, get multiple headphones. My SRH840's are AMAZING for midrange. AT-M50's have good high response, or if EQ'd through a preamp great bass response. Hell, you could always do t he Sennheiser HD550 route.
