It's time for a lucid dreaming thread

So to summarize my story, I took some melatonin supplements before heading to bed for the first time in a long time about a week ago. I noticed more vivid dreams where I can remember being in a lucid state and remember select parts of the dream, so I repeated this a few times over the past week. This didn't come as a shock, but it got me thinking about melatonin, lucid dreaming, and if it's worth it.

So what I'm asking is basically a 'Would you rather?' quesiton. Is it worth it to have vivid dreams where it's easy to become lucid but remember less details and less about the dreams than achieving it through other, more fulfilling but less reliable methods?

Don't bring lucid dreaming back, it was so popular in 2012, 9gag was full of this lucid dreaming shit. I don't want to go back.

I only bring this up because I hadn't thought about inducing it with melatonin, as obvious as it seems now. I couldn't care less about it being a recent fad.

I went for a chalet and I tried lucid dreaming with my friends. It's kinda of scary but it's cool too. Go try it out.

Thread was more or less about drug-induced lucid dreaming, I've tried it plenty.

I personally think its better to have 'easy to become lucid but remember less details' because some lucid dreams actually leave traumas or doubts about life.
I once had one which I didn't forget at all, one which you scream at your hardest but nobody can hear you and you get dragged into the darkness. I'll never forget that one.

Just let everything happen naturally bro.

If it's not natural, then it's bad.

"Religions are, by definition, metaphors, after all: God is a dream, a hope, a woman, an ironist, a father, a city, a house of many rooms, a watchmaker who left his prize chronometer in the desert, someone who loves you—even, perhaps, against all evidence, a celestial being whose only interest is to make sure your football team, army, business, or marriage thrives, prospers, and triumphs over all opposition. Religions are places to stand and look and act, vantage points from which to view the world. So none of this is happening. Such things could not occur. Never a word of it is literally true.”

Pretty sure the easier to become lucid but you remember less details is the best choice.

I pretty much never remember my dreams no matter the situation.
I am the seer in the dark,
    the vagabond of yore,
    valediction.
I am the sum of all your parts,
    and proprietor of all.
    A miasma,
    the conclusion,
    blackmonger of Inlé,
    valediction.
    Synapses fray,
    my form now vivid,
as torpor sets and blood grows tepid.
With every ounce of flesh now offered,
I hold your corpse within my coffers.
    Knitted cells now split asunder,
    stand alongside me brother.
Take your place amongst my Owsla,
we march at dawn now and forever.

I had some really awesome dreams, though. I think this is more or less is dependent on what you experience and if you have a tendency to have bad or unpleasant dreams more often than good ones.

You're fucking retarded, because I would be dead if I didn't use medicine to let things happen naturally. Melatonin isn't really proven to have major side effects in adults, as it only has a possibility of affecting adolescent development.

I feel like this is more or less true. I know people who can reliably lucid dream using their methods, but it requires lots of preparation.

I drank some coffee about 30 minutes before I took my 5mg of melatonin. After taking it, I started feeling it's effects around 40 minutes later. I slept for 13 hours, because melatonin makes me sleepy (which is intended.) Because of the nature of melatonin and caffeine, my first dream was probably 6 - 7 hours, and I probably hit REM sleep less, which meant less vivid dreams/lucid dreams. I can't remember my dreams from that first period. As the caffeine wore off, I was woken up by my cousin, asking if I wanted to chill out with him, to which I replied "fuck no" and went back to bed.

When I fell back asleep, I slept from 1-2 hours at a time for about 6 more hours. All dreams I had in this period I remember mostly, and all of them felt like they were 20 - 40 minutes in length (though I could very easily be wrong due to the fact that I probably wasn't in the best position to remember how long each dream lasted), and in all of them I was lucid dreaming and had some control over myself.

Honestly, it was a surreal experience that was so worth it. If I explained the dreams, they would make no sense. Some dreams involved my workplace, some involved me basically astral projecting, and some involved seeing my extended family (which makes sense since I'm at home for the holidays and they're all here as well.) Some dreams were beyond explanation and some were related to my life as it is now.

Probably for the best, as sleep feels short, and you get up sooner.
