    Need a new Linux distro

I'm looking for a suitable distro to be able to host a server on my laptop.
But I have only used Linux one time before, so I have no idea which one to pick.

What I'm looking for is lightweight, fast.
If possible, should be able to run Spotify and browse the web.

I don't need much more than that.
    So, what are my options?
If you have a suggestion, please elaborate.

CentOS - Basically it's a free version of Red Hat, Which is an enterprise grade distro.

Very stable, secure, and community driven. One of the best IMO

Checking the downloads now, it doesn't really seem all that lightweight judging by the size, 6.6gb, when i.e. Debian is just 300ish.

Yeah, it's not the most lightweight, but it's full fledged enterprise grade software and whatnot.
It's the best over the rest in regards to networking stuff, but I guess since you won't be running professional servers debian would suffice anyway.

Nah, it'd be a server for very few players.
Just me and my closer friends when we are playing.

So I don't really need to overdo it.
But then again, I don't really know that much about linux, what advantages does CentOS bring to the table that debian does not?

Each CentOS release is supported for 10 years, where debian is around 4.
Debian has more packages. Though with CentOS they are only put in the repository after testing, so stability would be higher for CentOS in that regard.
CentOS is one of the most tested and stable GNU/Linux distributions, since it is based off an enterprise distro, you can see why.

Basically, CentOS is more stable for primarily server focused people, if you don't really do anything else on the computer than manage the server.

Debian would probably be better for you though. More packages, larger community to help if you need it, and the difference in stability and security probably won't even matter for what you're doing.
