    The moon is 1/3 of earth and Earth is cover by 70%+ water. Do the math.

    Also, trickle down technology is the biggest benefit from space missions outside of getting past current limitations of tech, like the transistor is a result of the space race. It's hard to say what will come out of Mars, but things that come to mind is radiation shields, testing the endurance of humans surviving in zero g for over a year, etc.

    Well couldn't investing in space exploration help in the future issue of resource depletion and such? Also ofc It doesn't just limit to the moon and mars..

    You're right, and I understand.
    The transistor I understand. Mars? We haven't found any direct benefits to improve our life or our future life other than the implied traveling and colonizing on other planets. Nothing is for sure. No advancements in technology as of yet, and even so, it doesn't directly our life as normal citizens here on Earth. Point being, we put all this money into this, money that is coming from, I don't know, taxes, and yet none of it benefits the people.

    I don't know what'll be on this planet nor do I know what we have the potential to advance based upon our Mars exploration, but what I do know is in order for us to be able to colonize elsewhere we would have to improve our space transportation and a lot of other factors to endure colonizing on another planet thus spending more money to... solidify the future of our race?

    I disagree. If you look at it as a broad spectrum, maybe you won't be able to find it, but barely any money is thrown for pure research, if you want to develop technology it has to come from a practical approach. Something that creates a broad spectrum of many different problems that have to be conquered creates the most profound change in technology, IMO.

    For example radiation shields. I don't know much about them, I think they're magnetic fields of a certain strength, generated by inducing currents in metals, much like the Earth's radiation shield. Anyways, I imagine the metals will start overheating from all the current flowing through them and eventually melt and cause issues of it's own, so then they have to research a high heat alloy that is a great conductor. Who knows what its use can improve? Semiconductors? Rockets? etc. It's hard to say. I imagine composites would be better suited for spaceships, any technology that is discovered by NASA for spaceships would improve the new 787s and A350s straight away, composites are so messy, they're not conductive and a whole lot of other issues. Solving some of these factors can drop the prices of producing these vehicles, make them more common and reduce fuel costs and price of flying. It's all a process, even war is a driving factor in technology and produces large technological changes.

    That's just my opinion at least.

    yawn. These advances aren't necessarily going to come from Mars or this planet we don't even know for sure has 'alien life forms'. Notice how everything he brought up had an 'if' requirement.
    tRY haRder and try again.
    @arunforce
    Oh alright. I know about the practical approach to achieve advances, for sure.
    I do agree with everything you're saying, I think how I'm looking at it is immediate direct benefit as opposed to a processed science. I feel like all of this would only be beneficial to solidify us as a race, not really the near future.

    Thanks again, you actually helped me look at it in a different way I suppose although I knew it was there, I was more being a devil's advocate and claiming this money going into something that won't immediately benefit us will eventually put us into a worse economic state.

    it's impossible to disprove aliens, but certainly there would be some biological life form somewhere, whether it be a little creature in water, would be so strange to see those little sea monkey looking mofos on other planets. damn
